About
“My senior year of high school my plans were to replace Oprah, who’d thought I’d make my own lane.” ~Lauren Lee
Lauren Lee attended Kent State University on an academic scholarship. As a lifetime athlete, she joined the Kent State University’s Track Team to throw javelin and discus, but due to a torn ACL was unable to continue all four years.
Lee took the injury as a stumbling block and dove in face first into journalism. Through college she gained much experience. As an intern at WEWS-TV (ABC-Cleveland), she worked with the consumer and investigative team where she was able to go undercover and research a story that was aired on “Good Morning America”. She also worked on a documentary on the May 4th Shootings for the History Channel.
At Kent, Lauren tried out being a educator and was a student instructor for a television production course which was designed to promote more minority interest in broadcasting. The class produced two shows a public affairs show focusing on issues in the African-American community and a variety show, covering local artist, events and talk show type material.
Senior year of college Lee’s plan was redirected. “I found out I was pregnant during the NCAA Tournament,” said Lee. Ironically her daughter’s father and his Golden Flashes were playing in the tournament. “Of course we’d have the March madness baby.”
After deciding that she was indeed ready for a child, she changed her plans of pursuing a career as a television journalist, and decided that print journalism would be the way to go by taking a job as an editorial staff writer at the Voice Newspaper in New Baltimore, Michigan.
The slowing economy, resulted in major cuts in staffing at the paper, so Lee again had to reroute yet again. This time she decided to take courses at Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts. After finishing her studies there she was able to land a job as a production assistant at WXYZ-Detroit (ABC). Within 6 months Lee was able to become a writer and associate producer putting together content for the noon,5, 6, and 7 p.m. newscast.
It was there she able to connect with Florine Mark (President and CEO of The WW Group- Weight Watchers) and was asked to become her publicist and produce her television show “Ask Florine”. For Weight Watchers in Michigan and Ontario, Lauren has been a multimedia genius, managing major public relation campaigns and partnerships that have helped keep the company viable through Michigan’s economic downturn. Known as “Florine Mark’s Right Hand”, she not only ghost writes for Mark, but Lee also has been an excellent speech writer, helping her continue to be one of the most highly sought after motivational speakers in the country.
Most recently, Lauren began work on one of her lifelong dreams of writing a screenplay and producing a documentary by teaming up with Real Entertainment Films and KJ Post for the film “Why Do Men Cheat? The Movie, which is set to be release sometime in early 2011.
In her free time, Lauren is an active member of New Beginning Church and enjoys spending time with her daughter, volunteering, blogging and tweeting.
